ACTIVATED CHARCOAL        (carbo activatus, carbo medicinalis)

Activated charcoal is a powerful natural substance used to bind metabolites, toxins and chemicals in the digestive tract, allowing the body to excrete different adsorbed substances.
It is produced by thermal treatment from various natural sources.

One of the most popular applications of activated charcoal is the safe and effective treatment of poisoning and drug overdose. Therefore, Activated charcoal is used in emergency centers around the world.

Since 1977, one of the standard publications issued every two years is the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines, a list of basic medicines and health care preparations.

 

At present, the 20th edition since August 2017 has been in force, in which activated charcoal powder is listed in the poisoning anti dot section and is recommended as non-specific remedy.(1)
